Some of the biggest childhood memories come from the smallest moments.
Years from now, your kids probably won’t remember the sandwich you packed on a random Tuesday or whether you added their favorite snack.
But they just might remember opening their lunchbox and finding a little note that made them smile.
It only takes about 10 seconds to tuck a lunchbox note beside an apple or sandwich, but that tiny surprise can remind your child they’re loved, make them laugh in the middle of the school day, or give them a little extra confidence before a spelling test or soccer game.
That’s why I put together this collection of 20 free printable lunchbox notes. Instead of repeating the same message every day, you’ll have a mix of funny jokes, encouraging words, interesting facts, and simple kindness challenges that keep lunchtime fun all month long.
Print them once, keep them in a kitchen drawer, and grab one whenever you’re packing lunches. It’s one of the easiest traditions to start—and one your kids may remember long after they’ve outgrown their lunchbox.
Why Kids Love Finding Lunchbox Notes
Lunchbox notes are more than cute pieces of paper. They’re little reminders that someone is thinking about them while they’re away from home. Some kids read them quietly before taking their first bite. Others immediately show them to their friends. Some save their favorites in their backpack or bedroom drawer. That tiny moment of connection can help a child feel encouraged, confident, and loved—even on a hard day. And the best part is that it costs almost nothing and takes less than a minute.

How to Print
Print the lunchbox notes on white cardstock for the best results. The thicker paper helps the notes hold up inside lunchboxes and backpacks. A paper trimmer makes quick work of cutting the cards and gives them clean, straight edges.
After printing, cut them apart and store them somewhere easy to grab during busy mornings. We like to use a recipe card box like this. The dividers work great if you have multiple kids. You can print a copy for each kid and put them in their own section. Then you never give one kid the same joke twice.
More Than Just Lunchboxes
These notes aren’t limited to lunch.
Try hiding one:
- Inside a backpack pocket
- Beside an after-school snack
- In a sports bag
- Inside a library book
- In a suitcase before a trip
- On a bedroom pillow before the first day of school
Kids love finding little surprises in unexpected places.
